Narayanpet – Handloom sarees in superior silk
History (History of Narayanpet)
Previously Narayanpet contained Narayanpet town and 78 villages. In 1905, the Taluk was broken and the villages were transferred to Makhtal Taluk and Yadgir Taluk in Gulbarga district. The people here can speak Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada and Marwari and are primary languages for communication due to the presence of people from all these regions who are experienced in handloom weaving. In older days Narayanpet had schools teaching "Marathi" and "Kannada". Now trend has changed the medium of communication in schools to English, Telugu and Urdu. Primary source of income of the people here is from weaving sarees. Because of scarcity of water (no rivers near by) and bad transportation (no railway station) there is no major industry here.
