and repeatedly asked, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?" He'll probably be
remembered for reporting an unsubstantiated and untrue story of W's "military
career". But we'll remember his khaki jungle jackets and chambray
shirts. His onsite reporting in hurricanes and firestorms from Vietnam to
Moscow. Like a missionary, he was eager to go. He was the first big
name it seemed on the scene, dressing the part, in sugarcane fields or on snowy
steppes, hanging out of helicopters or whispering at the back of a
convention. Now banished to journalism "Siberia", we think only Dan can
make himself comfortable there. We'll remember that he replaced Walter
Cronkite and from That's the way it is to That's part of our world
tonight, we wonder at least once a week around 6:30 pm, "What
tie would Dan Rather wear tonight?"
